Oil Spill Response Strategies for Coastal Marshes during the Deepwater Horizon MC252 Spill (2010) |
This document outlines the response plan for marshes and other nearshore
and shoreline areas impacted by the Deepwater Horizon MC252 oil spill,
describes the relationship between degree of oiling and choice of cleanup
strategy, defines levels of oiling of marshes (in terms of heavy, moderate, or
light/very light oiling). It then lists and describes current cleanup methods
to consider for marshes oiled during this spill event.

Administration to Reaffirm Commitment to "No Net Loss" of Wetlands (2003) |
In the case of Solid Waste Agency of North Cook County (SWANCC) vs. U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers (Corp) (2001), the Supreme Court declared that the Clean Water Act
(CWA) of 1972 does not grant authority to the Corp to regulate “isolated” waters
and wetlands. In an effort to counter-act diminishing Federal authority over
wetlands, the Corp and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued this press release reasserting their policy of “no net loss” of wetlands.

Best Practices for Migratory Bird Care During Oil Spill Response (2003) |
For use by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and other natural resource management agencies, oiled bird rehabilitators, On-Scene Coordinators (OSCs), and Potentially Responsible Parties (PRPs) as a guide in developing appropriate sections of Area Contingency Plans, evaluating contractors for bird capture and rehabilitation, making informed choices during spill responses, and evaluating oiled bird rehabilitation activities to improve field practices.The creators of this document set out to define and recommend the best practices for their field with the aim of promoting the welfare of migratory birds during an oil spill response.

Guidelines for Bioremediation of Marine Shorelines and Freshwater Wetlands (2001) |
Provides technical assistance for spill responders responsible for designing and
operating the field bioremediation of marine shorelines and freshwater wetlands
only. Evaluates current bioremediation techniques, critiques existing theories
and literature on oil bioremediation, nutrient dynamics in shorelines and
analytical chemistry of oil and presents an approach to planning remediation.
May also be useful for On-Scene Coordinators (OSCs), equipment manufacturers and remediation
consultants.

A Preliminary Survey of Marine Contamination from Mining-Related Activities on Marinduque Island, Philippines: Pore Water Toxicity and Chemistry Results from a Field Trip (2000) |
This report presents the results of sediment porewater toxicity tests and
chemical analyses performed in October of 2000 on Marinduque Island,
Philippines. Scientists assessed adverse effects to animals and plants cause by
environmental contaminants produced from mining activities.

Oiled Wildlife Training Video Series (NCTC) |
This Oiled Wildlife Training video series provides detailed awareness of the activities (US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) or other Department of Interior (DOI) responders might take in response to an oil spill. The videos were developed and produced by National Conservation Training Center (NCTC) in partnership with the DOI Office of Environmental Policy and Compliance (OEPC).
